Speaking Canarian: without complexes

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Is Canarian Spanish a kind of "poorly spoken" Castilian? Do Canarians sometimes feel a little insecure when speaking in public? Do we occasionally think that our way of addressing others isn't very "formal" if we don't pronounce the final 's' sound or if we don't use 'vosotros'? What is Spanish? And Castilian? How is it spoken, and what language is taught in schools? And, amidst all these questions… where does Canarian Spanish fit in?

All these issues are addressed from a clear and straightforward perspective in the video discussion offered on Friday, May 21st, by the President of the Canary Islands Academy of Language, Humberto Hernández Hernández. Author of numerous books and countless articles on Language and Literature, this Professor of Spanish Philology, born in Tenerife, a renowned lexicographer, PhD, university professor, and teacher, has dedicated much time to reflecting on these aspects.

The importance of learning to care in times of pandemic: coeducation

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

The Faculty of Education is organizing this video discussion that will be led by Amparo Tomé, sociologist and researcher specializing in Sociology of Education, focusing her activity on Gender and Education, at the national and international level.

She will discuss coeducation as a new educational approach that diagnoses not only sexism in the education system but also the underlying values of an unreflective world, rushing to address the urgent but not the important. Coeducation opens the door to placing human beings, with their strengths and weaknesses, back at the center of the education system.

Coeducation includes cooperation, friendship, the immense importance of getting closer to and caring for Nature; looking at and treating children with tenderness; giving girls tools to dismantle the myths of beauty as the only feminine value, the traps of romantic love and the sexual model of the female body.
