Dissemination of research

Training activity 1

  • Number of hours: 20
  • Format: Blended learning
  • Status: Mandatory
  • Description: This course aims to familiarize students with the most effective strategies for disseminating research results, by helping them select the most appropriate media based on their quality, format, and accessibility. It will also present the main evaluation criteria used by Quality Assurance Agencies to assess different formats.
  • Contents:
    • Publication formats and suitability to the type of information presented
    • Quality criteria for a scientific publication: journal evaluation, impact factors, databases, indexed and non-indexed journals, prestigious publishers
    • Evaluation of the research by Quality Agencies.
  • Time planning: Second semester of the first year

  • Activities carried out by the doctoral candidate:
    • Preparation of a dossier with the evaluation of the quality of the bibliography collected in three specific publications of the line of research of your doctoral thesis project
    • Proficient handling of bibliographic databases on various virtual platforms
  • Assessment :
    • Competence in the identification and selection of scientific contributions 50%
    • Quality of oral presentation and responses 50%
  • Control procedures: monitoring of attendance, participation, and submission of the activities proposed in the course and/or courses offered in each academic year. The activity will be evaluated by the teaching staff.

Oral communication in the scientific field

Training activity 2

  • Number of hours: 20
  • Format: Blended learning
  • Status: Mandatory
  • Description: The aim is to enhance the doctoral candidate's communication skills in order to establish a framework for interaction with the scientific community as a whole and with society in general regarding the results of their research in their field of knowledge. As preparation for a future stay abroad, this presentation will be given in English.
  • Content:
    • Types of oral presentation of research I (conferences, tribunals, report presentations)
    • Types of oral presentation of research II (dissemination conferences, round tables, debates)
    • Oral communication techniques
    • Oral communication and ICTs.
  • Skills:

    • English presentation of said presentation
    • Answer questions from the audience in English as well.

  • Control procedures: The activity will be evaluated by the teaching staff. The activity descriptions specify the schedule of activities depending on whether they are taken full-time (ETC) or part-time (ETP).

Presentation of a theoretical and/or methodological aspect derived from the Thesis in a public context (Congress, Seminar,
Workshop) specializing in one or more of the doctoral research lines

Training activity 3

  • Number of hours: 40 hours
  • Format: Blended learning
  • Status: Mandatory
  • Description: This course aims to integrate the researcher's individual experience within the scientific community. This involves selecting a significant aspect of their work that can be presented independently, undergoing a selection and evaluation process by external experts, practicing presenting their work to the scientific community, and learning how to manage and adapt criticism to their own work.
  • Content: At the discretion of each thesis director
  • Time planning: Annual nature and recommendation from the first year for students with full-time and part-time dedication.
  • Skills:
    • CB11 Ability to demonstrate a systematic understanding of each field of study and mastery of the research skills and methods related to it.
    • CB12 Ability to conceive, design, implement and adopt a research process with academic rigor.
    • CB13 Ability to make a scientific contribution, through original research, that expands the frontiers of knowledge in this field, and that deserves referenced publication at the national or international level.

    • Selection of an aspect of the thesis that can be individualized in order to present it publicly.
    • Selection of the venue where it will be presented. Preparation of an abstract in accordance with the regulations of the chosen event.
    • Preparation of the presentation according to the format proposed by the organizing committee.
    • Advocacy for the presentation and participation in debates arising about it or related contributions
  • Activity evaluation: Accreditation of attendance and presentation 100%
  • Control procedure: The activity will be evaluated by the tutor based on the accreditation of attendance at the indicated hours.

Research seminars

Training activity 4

  • Number of hours: 20
  • Format: Blended learning
  • Status: Mandatory
  • Description: The activity consists of participatory attendance at conferences and seminars given by researchers from the doctoral program, or those who, through an agreement or other type of arrangement, have agreed to participate in the program, as well as other researchers who are at one of the two universities to give courses or lectures that are linked to one of the lines of research of the program.
  • Content: At the discretion of the invited researchers, provided it is related to the research lines of the program
  • Time planning: It will be annual. It will be recommended from the first year to both full-time and part-time students.

  • Control procedure: The activity will be evaluated by the tutor based on the accreditation of attendance at 20 hours of conferences and seminars (The Academic Commission will make available to the students a specific form to carry out such accreditation which must be supervised by the organizer of the event).

Mobility

Training activity 5

  • Number of hours: 160 hours
  • Status: Mandatory
  • Mode: In-person
  • Time planning: According to the specific needs of each job (they can be carried out consecutively or intermittently)
  • Description: Each doctoral student must complete at least one research stay at a research center, university, or documentation center (archives, libraries, museums), preferably international, although this may be changed to a similar institution in Spain if the type of work undertaken so advises. These stays, when combined, must total at least one month by the end of the training period. The objective of this stay is to attend specific courses and research seminars, exchange experiences with other researchers, consult documentation necessary for the dissertation project, or acquire specific training in a particular methodology. The dissertation supervisors, in collaboration with the tutor and the doctoral student, will schedule these stays; they will be included in each doctoral student's training activities plan and must therefore be approved by the doctoral academic committee. The flexibility in scheduling the mobility stay (combining several stays or completing them in a single year) aims to facilitate participation in this activity for part-time students. For the purposes of verifying mobility, the student must prove it and carry it out preferably in any of the foreign institutions with which there are signed collaboration agreements (listed in the corresponding annex of this proposal), although other collaborations may also be signed in the future that are more in line with the thesis topic of each student.
  • Contents: These will vary, depending on the topic of the thesis project.
  • Activities: These will be tailored to the nature of each thesis project. The doctoral candidate must submit a report of these activities for evaluation by their supervisor.
  • Evaluation of the activity: Accreditation of the stay 100%
  • Control procedures: It will be evaluated by the academic tutor.
