Most of the classes are given in the Faculty of Sciences, Biology Section (La Laguna, Tenerife) and some practical classes on other islands. It is structured in three semesters. Theoretical and practical classes are given during the first two semesters, with their respective seminars and tutorials. The third semester (September – January of the second year) consists of External Placements and the Master’s Dissertation. Overall training: the conservation of biodiversity as a survival need that requires experts with a vision of the big picture. Practical teaching. The practical approach of subjects, knowledge of the territory and techniques. Specialists in handling biodiversity in fragile island ecosystems

  • In short, the aim is to gain knowledge and understanding of: the nature of biodiversity, kinds, origin, fluctuations and threats; methods and techniques for its conservation, management and sustainable use; preparation for professional practise and for teaching biodiversity in its different aspects; initiation into basic and applied research into current living beings and fossils, and into systemic and evolutionary aspects of biodiversity
  • Transmit to students respect for fundamental rights and equality between men and women, respect and promote human rights, democratic culture and peace, and the principles of equal opportunities, non-discrimination and universal access for the disabled
  • Provide an up-to-date, high quality training based on acquiring the theoretical-practical, multi-disciplinary knowledge necessary to engage in research, practising in the emerging and fast-growing professions and to manage public or private entities
  • Train specialists in Biodiversity and Conservation, enabling them to gain access to jobs with a high level of responsibility or to apply their ideas in a research context
  • The graduate of this Master Programme will be a specialist in Terrestrial Biodiversity and Conservation in Islands and will be able to undertake research and work as a senior technician in both administration and private activity in the field in which he has been trained. Also, this master's degree enables you to access Doctoral Programs

  • The recommended entry profile indicated for this Master would be students interested in specialising in terrestrial biodiversity and its conservation with a view to acquiring the knowledge and skills that will enable them to enter the job market and also capacitate them to explore the fundamental techniques of research, development and innovation in Biodiversity in greater depth and to write a PhD thesis. The Master is aimed preferably at graduates in Biology, but other graduates are eligible (RD 1393/2007, Art. 16), preferably those that cover aspects related to biological issues. The compulsory or recommended prerequisites of the different subjects taught on the Master, contained in the teaching guide, indicate the necessary prior knowledge and can act as a reference for students
