Internships

Internships are mandatory for undergraduate programs taught at the University of La Laguna and expose students to real-life situations, complementing their training with the reality of the working world.

In the Medicine Degree, external internships are included in the Curriculum as clinical internships, which are included and integrated into the mandatory credits for the final academic year's rotating course. The course is entirely devoted to clinical internships.

Clinical practices are conducted at the Canary Islands University Hospital Complex, Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria University Hospital Complex, and at the Primary Care Centers of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) that have been approved for teaching purposes, within the framework of the Canary Islands Public Universities–SCS agreement and the University of La Laguna–SCS agreement for the teaching use of public hospitals and healthcare entities.

General requirements for completing Rotational Subjects

To complete the rotating subjects, students must meet the requirements established in the teaching guides for each rotating subject, as well as any other general academic requirements established by the degree in its Modification Report.

The Rotation Coordinator is responsible for agreeing with the subject coordinators and the leaders of each center on the number of students admitted, the duration, and the activities to be carried out by the students.

The center and its affiliated degrees have structures and mechanisms for organizing, managing, evaluating, and monitoring clinical practices/rotations, which are specified in: Course Coordinating Staff and Subject Coordinators who organize clinical practices in the various university hospitals and Specialized Care Centers of the Canary Islands Health Service, with which agreements exist.

At the end of the rotational internship period, sixth-year students undergo an objective and structured clinical evaluation (OSCE), designed in parallel with the rest of Spain's medical schools, through the National Conference of Deans of Medicine.

Distribution of students in hospitals:

All students enrolled in Rotational subjects will carry out their clinical internships in both Hospital Centers, a Specialized Care Center, and a Primary Care Center.

The specific regulations that establish the characteristics of the supervised internships that the curriculum must contain are as follows:
