Library and equality
The Library has a Social Responsibility Policy where support and promotion of equal opportunities without gender distinction is included, the promotion of the fight against gender violence, as well as the commitment to the promotion of equality between the sexes by fostering actions aimed at this goal and including the gender perspective in daily activity.
The Library's Social Responsibility Committee is working on goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls.
In 2022 the Library joined the network of Canary Islands Libraries for Equality.
The Library has created several committees that work on equality:
- Social Responsibility Commission
- Equality Commission (made up of representatives from the Library, from the Gender Equality Unit, of the University Institute for Women's Studies and students).
The Education Library and the General and Humanities Library have specialized collections in feminism and gender studies, as well as popular science books. They also serve as spaces for debate, exhibitions, book presentations, and workshops. Click on the links below for more information.

El espacio de Igualdad está situado en la primera planta de la Biblioteca de Educación. Se trata de un espacio abierto en el que podrá encontrar una colección de bibliografía divulgativa actualizada y una colección más especializada formada por la donación del colectivo Harimaguada y la donación del profesor Fernando Barragán sobre educación sexual, homosexualidad, estudios de género y feminismo.
Se distinguen 3 espacios:
- Space for screenings, workshops, talks, book presentations, etc., with capacity for 100 people.
- Zona de mesas de trabajo.
- Rest and reading area
Este espacio podrá ser solicitado por miembros de la comunidad universitaria o por organismos o asociaciones externas para realizar actividades del ámbito académico o cultural.
Las actividades que se desarrollen estarán dirigidas a toda la comunidad universitaria y al público en general, salvo que respondan a una actividad académica concreta.
Se valorará preferentemente que las actividades incorporen perspectiva de género y, en cualquier caso, la Biblioteca se reserva el derecho de aceptación de la solicitud.
Debe tenerse en cuenta que no se podrá realizar ningún intercambio comercial (venta de productos, merchandising, etc.) ni ofrecer ningún tipo de cátering dentro de la Biblioteca.

El espacio se ubica en la planta 0 de la Biblioteca General y de Humanidades. Alberga el Fondo de Igualdad de Humanidades. Esta colección incluye más de 4300 libros especializados en igualdad, disponibles para préstamo. La temática abarca diversas perspectivas, filosóficas, lingüísticas, psicológicas, históricas y artísticas, con especial énfasis en los estudios sobre igualdad en Canarias.
The activities held in this space are aimed at both the university community and the general public. In addition, any organization or association interested in gender equality issues can request to use the space for talks, presentations, and other related events.
This space contains various areas designed for different purposes:
- Area for consulting informative bibliographic materials.
- Area for screenings, talks and presentations, especially of an academic and cultural nature. Capacity for 60 people.
- Rest and reading area.
