Description
Taiji Quan (a Chinese martial art) was originally created as a form of self-defense, belonging to the internal school (Neijia) which emphasizes mental control over the external power of muscular force. Considered a health exercise, it stresses several aspects such as smooth, slow, circular, and continuous movement.
Taiji Quan, without being confused with a rehabilitation therapy, can be considered as an alternative exercise and therapy that improves our physical and mental health, and can be practiced by anyone regardless of age, sex or physical condition.
Goals
- Educating in the harmonious use of body movement.
- Meditate while moving, to open the channels through which energy flows, improving the circulation of Qi (energy) throughout the body.
- Correcting postural defects, aligning the structure, and fostering the habit of keeping the spine straight and relaxed.
- Increase lymphatic and blood circulation.
- Activate cellular metabolism.
- Stimulate the pumping of cerebrospinal fluid that travels through the central nervous system inside the spine and skull.
- Strengthen, tone and stretch all body tissues.
- To provide mental calm, release tension and enhance concentration, thanks to slow, harmonious and coordinated movement followed by slow and deep breathing.
- Improving motor coordination, which affects both cerebral hemispheres, helps to exercise the brain and keep its functions sharp.
