Organizing Universities

The University of La Laguna and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria organize the Canary Islands University Championship, in which the champions of the Rector's Trophy face each other.

The Higher Sports Council, as the institution with state authority in sports matters, is responsible, along with universities, for coordinating national sports activities. It also collaborates in promoting sports participation in university centers and is responsible for international university participation.

To improve and coordinate these functions, the Spanish University Sports Committee (CEDU) was created in 1988. Through its Standing Committee, universities propose national activities to the CSD (Spanish National Sports Council).

In addition to the aforementioned Standing Committee, CEDU meets annually in Plenary Session, which includes representatives from:

  • The Higher Sports Council
  • The Council of Universities
  • The State Secretariat for Universities and Research
  • All Universities
  • All Autonomous Communities

Applications for team and doubles sports will not be accepted for 2026 due to a lack of funding. Applications for individual sports must be submitted electronically once the corresponding resolution is published, which is expected to be during the last week of January. The opening of the application period will be announced on this website, the Sports Service's social media channels, and in official bulletins. The Sports Service will evaluate the applications to select athletes for the various sports based on sporting and academic merit criteria specific to this call for applications.
