In vivo screening based on cell phenotype reversal to find new inhibitor drugs against the Chk1 kinase implicated in cancer
In vivo screening based on cell phenotype reversal to find new inhibitor drugs against the Chk1 kinase implicated in cancer
Chk1 is a well-known target for cancer drug development. The project aims to discover existing drugs approved for human use (by the FDA) that can inhibit the Chk1 pathway for cancer therapy. This is an example of drug repurposing. We are using a system we developed within the IMBRAIN project based on the use of an activated Chk1 mutant. As a result, our screening is able to detect inhibitors that can enter the cell and interfere with any aspect of Chk1 function in vivo. This approach is very different from that used in the pharmaceutical industry.
