Its authors, university professors Francisco Quirantes González, Juan Ramón Núñez Pestano and Domingo Antonio García Mesa, carry out an exhaustive investigation on the mountains of the Island, from various perspectives and approaches, concluding that they have always been a humanized landscape, built by man and nature.
The work, funded by the Tenerife Island Council in collaboration with the Faculty of Geography and History at the University of La Laguna, traces over 500 years of the history of our forests, providing extensive information on each area of the territory during this period. The team of renowned professors responsible for its preparation concludes that understanding the current state of our forests requires grasping the interaction between natural conditions and the social strategies adopted at each stage to manage the exploitation of forest resources.
The book "History of the Mountains of Tenerife" is organized into fifteen chapters. It begins with the distribution and granting of the municipal forests to the Cabildo in 1506, the legislation governing the ownership of the mountains of Tenerife, and the reforestation efforts following fires.
