Socrates – Erasmus
The main objective of the Socrates student mobility program is to contribute to improving the quality of education for young people and adults by strengthening European cooperation and increasing learning opportunities within the European Union (EU). The University of La Laguna (ULL) has signed agreements with various universities and institutions in current and future EU member states. This program provides, on the one hand, financial support to universities for organizing exchanges, and on the other hand, grants to selected students to study for the first semester, second semester, or a full academic year at another European institution with which the ULL has a mobility agreement.
The administrative procedure to follow to obtain an Erasmus place involves the following steps:
- The student must submit the application form to the administration office of our faculty. This is usually done during the month of February each year;
- Resolution from the Erasmus Committee of our faculty listing the admitted students and their assigned destinations. Selection criteria generally include academic record, language proficiency in the destination country, and the student's financial resources.;
- Between June 1st and 15th of each academic year, the academic contract between the student and the faculty must be completed. Students are assisted in this process by a designated Faculty Tutor. At the end of the academic year, when students return to La Laguna, the grades obtained at the host university are added to their academic record.
The granting of an ERASMUS grant does not in any case imply the reduction or suspension of scholarships from the Canary Islands Autonomous Community or the Ministry of Education and Culture that students may obtain for the same academic year.
Complete information about this exchange program can be found on the website of the University. On the International tab.

Actions of the Erasmus Coordinator with Students of the University of La Laguna (ULL)
The coordinator plays a crucial role in the complex task of organizing the Erasmus student selection process, as well as ensuring the proper and efficient management of the application process. Therefore, collaboration between the coordinators and the International Relations Office (ORI) is essential. The coordinator's responsibilities within the program are essentially as follows:
- Establish personal contacts or take responsibility for contacts established by the ORI, if they are of interest to you, which will lead to the institutional signing of the agreement that will allow receiving and sending a certain number of students, or carrying out any of the actions foreseen in the Erasmus Program.
- To participate in the student selection process, which must, in any case, be based on criteria made public in the call for applications. This selection of candidates is based primarily on the following aspects:
- Academic record.
- Knowledge of the language in which classes are taught at the host university
- Matching the candidate's profile to the characteristics of the position.
- Motivation to carry out exchanges.
- Provide students with information about the start and end dates of the academic year, as well as the curricula, subjects, and syllabi for each year. The websites of each university are essential sources of this information. This will allow the coordinator to prepare the Academic Recognition agreement before the student's departure and subsequently recognize the results achieved.
- The coordinator and the student will agree on the selection of courses and/or credits the student will take, as well as the recognition and grades they will receive upon their return. To this end, the equivalency of studies between those at the University of La Laguna and those planned to be pursued abroad will be verified, following the ECTS model. It will be up to each faculty to decide whether to allow selected students to take courses they have not yet completed in previous years. This agreement must be documented in writing in the Prior Academic Recognition and Learning Agreement.
- In the case of doctoral students, credits earned outside the program may be recognized within the framework of the Socrates program, and it will be the student who requests such recognition from the Doctoral Committee. Doctoral students do not need to complete the academic recognition document, which is reserved for undergraduate and graduate students.
- It is recommended that the student know the coordinator's email address, in order to be able to contact him quickly if needed.
- The student should be advised that upon arrival at the host university, they must contact their tutor/coordinator to obtain approval of the proposed learning agreement. If any modifications are required, these must be documented in a learning agreement amendment, which the student must then submit to the coordinator at the University of La Laguna for approval, along with a new and final academic recognition commitment document.
- Once the study period at the host university has ended, the student will contact their coordinator and, according to the terms agreed upon in the Academic Recognition Agreement, will submit proof of the grades obtained. The coordinator will translate the grades into the local equivalent for the courses taken, which will be recorded in the Erasmus transcript provided by the faculty and center secretariats to the coordinators. In the case of doctoral students, these grades will be sent to the Doctoral Committee for inclusion in their academic record.
- Inform the International Relations Office of any substantial changes that occur in relation to the student's stay at the host university.
Actions of the Erasmus Tutor with foreign students
When European students arrive at the University of La Laguna and meet their coordinator/tutor, the coordinator will verify that the student's learning agreement is valid. Any academic issues should be reported to their European coordinator for resolution. To facilitate their enrollment process at the ULL, the coordinator will authorize the block of courses they will take at the University of La Laguna in the European learning agreement itself, or, if necessary, in the ULL agreement.
The coordinator will provide his European counterpart with information on the start and end dates of the academic year at the University of La Laguna, as well as on the study plans and subjects per course.
