Competencies

Competencies are the set of knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be acquired by students throughout the degree, aimed at preparing them for the exercise of professional activities.

In the Degree in Classical Studies The development of the basic competencies included in the Spanish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (MECES), RD1393/2007, by students is guaranteed:

Basic skills
  1. That students have demonstrated possession and understanding of knowledge in an area of study that builds upon general secondary education, and is usually found at a level that includes some aspects involving knowledge from the forefront of their field of study.
  2. That students know how to apply their knowledge to their work in a professional manner, and possess demonstrable skills through the development and defense of arguments and the resolution of problems within their area of study.
  3. That students have the ability to gather and interpret relevant data, usually within their area of study, to make judgments that include reflection on relevant social, scientific, or ethical issues.
  4. That students can transmit information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialized and non-specialized audiences.
  5. That students have developed the learning skills necessary to undertake further studies with a high degree of autonomy.

General skills

CG1 – Properly manage the computer, audiovisual and bibliographic sources specific to classical studies.
CG2 – Critically assimilate scientific documentation in the field of classical studies in the reference language, as well as in the mother tongue.
CG3 – Be able to adequately convey the content specific to the field of classical studies to both specialists and non-specialists.
CG4 – Use the basic tools for the processing and dissemination of academic information in the field of classical studies.
CG5 – Use appropriate terminology specific to classical studies.
CG6 – Be able to acquire information and solve problems related to classical studies both independently and cooperatively.
CG7 – Be able to identify the differences and similarities between Greco-Roman and contemporary Western culture.
CG8 – Being able to plan, organize and manage the time needed for studying and solving tasks typical of classical studies.

CE1 – Analyze the main phonetic and morphological phenomena of the Latin language.
CE2 – Analyze the main phonetic and morphological phenomena of the ancient Greek language and its dialectal variants.
CE3 – Analyze the main syntactic and semantic phenomena of the Latin language.
CE4 – Analyze the main syntactic and semantic phenomena of the ancient Greek language and its dialectal variants.
CE5 – To know the concepts, methods of analysis, disciplines and terminology necessary for the linguistic analysis of classical languages.
CE6 – Understanding the grammar of the ancient Greek language.
CE7 – Understanding the grammar of the Latin language.
CE8 – Apply knowledge derived from Indo-European linguistics to classical languages.
CE9 – To know the history of the Latin language and its evolution.
CE10 – To know in depth the ancient Greek literature and its survival.
CE11 – To know in depth the Latin literature and its survival.
CE12 – Apply the knowledge acquired to the philological commentary of texts in Greek.
CE13 – Apply the knowledge acquired to the philological commentary of Latin texts.
CE14 – To know the tradition, survival and current relevance of classical culture.
CE15 – Use appropriately the collections of texts, bibliographic repertoires, dictionaries, portals and other academic information tools specific to the field of Classical Studies.
CE16 – Achieve a sufficient instrumental and discursive mastery of the Spanish language: spelling, grammar, lexicology and pragmatics.
CE17 – Communicate orally and in writing in English concepts related to the field of classical studies.
CE18 – Apply the knowledge and techniques acquired during the development of the degree to the philological commentary of Latin or Greek texts in their various aspects: linguistic, literary, historical-cultural and transmission.
CE19 – Critically analyze the information relevant to the corresponding object of study of the Final Degree Project, whatever its format and support.
CE20 – Cite correctly and coherently the sources, both primary and secondary, used for the development of the work.
CE21 – Write papers, documents or reports in Spanish according to the style standards of academic work.
CE22 – Publicly defend hypotheses, procedures, techniques and conclusions of the research or work carried out, using the appropriate resources and instruments in each case.
CE23 – To know the work environment in which the knowledge and skills acquired during the development of the degree can be developed.
CE24 – Apply theoretical and practical knowledge related to the classical world in the relevant work environment: teaching; research; cultural management; tourism management; publishing and communication; documentation, archiving and library science; etc.
