The Faculty of Law at the University of La Laguna will host the exhibition “Only Six. The Story of Salimata Sangare” throughout the month of November in its facilities...

In the late 1990s, the concept of “artistic research” became fashionable. The reason wasn't particularly noteworthy: after the Bologna Process, European art schools were forced to integrate into universities, and consequently, their faculty were required to be evaluated according to academic protocols that were unfamiliar to them. With considerable leniency, the usual transfer mechanisms in the art world were adopted, and once the “academic peace” was established, interest in the concept vanished as quickly as it had arisen. And with it, a number of interesting questions about the epistemological dimension of art disappeared, settled by the tacit agreement—not only excessive but, above all, intellectually unproductive—that all artistic practice should be considered research.
In the last decade, the affective turn and speculative materialism have shattered the postmodern consensus, in place since at least the 1970s, regarding the linguistic nature of reality and, specifically, the conceptual character of art. Today, various quarters are calling for a return to an ontology oriented toward artistic objects, which goes so far as to consider any epistemological concern about the arts as yet another example of humanist supremacism. In this context, which not only denies art any relationship with knowledge but also compels it to resist it, we believe that interest in what might be considered artistic research, or more simply, in the role of art within the university context, acquires a dimension that we might dare to call programmatic.
From that conviction, with Everything else We intend to reframe these problems in the way we believe is our own: through a "thesis" presentation that, in turn, is presented as a research project that will be presented during its development and aspires to have continuity in time and space.
