Interlibrary loan


The Interlibrary Loan service is responsible for providing reproductions or original documents on loan that are not owned by the University Library of La Laguna, from other Spanish and foreign libraries and information centers, in order to facilitate access for users to the documentation they need.

In addition, it supplies documents to libraries or centers that request them.

Who is it aimed at?

The Interlibrary Loan Service is aimed at the entire university community: Teaching and Research Staff (PDI), Students, Technical Management and Administration and Services Staff (PTGAS) and people associated with Alumni ULL.

What documents are provided?

Documents that can be requested:

  • Books
  • Copies or digitizations of book chapters, journal articles, theses (published or with the author's authorization), manuscripts, etc.

Documents that cannot be requested:

  • Audiovisual materials, etc.
  • Reference works (such as dictionaries, encyclopedias).
  • Complete issues of magazines.
  • Originals of old or rare books.
  • Technical standards (ISO, AENOR, ASTM, etc.)

Time required for receiving and consulting documents

Document Reception

Applications are processed within a maximum of 3 business days. After that, document delivery times vary and depend on the supplying center and postal services. Most journal articles and book chapters are received electronically (PDF format) and accessed via links to a server.

When the Interlibrary Loan Service receives the requested document, it will notify the requesting person by email of its arrival.

Reproductions

The reproduction of the works and their use will be in accordance with current legislation on intellectual property (RDL 1/1996 Intellectual Property Law) and with international agreements.

Inquiries about original works

  • The loan period for original works is 1 month from receipt of the copy, and an extension can be requested provided it is requested before the loan period has expired and the lending library agrees.
  • Borrowed materials can be consulted at the General and Humanities Library or at the library specified by the borrower. If the document is requested to be sent to a central library, the time it takes to arrive via internal mail will reduce the number of days the material will be available.
  • The works may not leave the library.
  • For in-room consultations, you must identify yourself with your university card or ID.

Commitments of the applicants

The materials obtained through this service are exclusively for personal, teaching or research use and their commercial use is not authorized.

Users are responsible for the borrowed material and will be obliged to replace it if it is lost or damaged.

How to make a request

To use the Interlibrary Loan Service, you need to authenticate with your ULL credentials.

New users

  • The person using the service for the first time must Access Interlibrary Loan and register by clicking on the “ button“Register”Next, you must complete the registration form. Once the service has registered you in the program, you will receive a confirmation message.
  • Please remember that if any of your details change: email address, department, etc., you must inform this service so that we can update our database.

People who have already used the service

  • Before making a request, you should consult the search engine. PuntoQ and verify that the document you wish to request not found in the Library's archives.
  • If it is an article, the journal and the year it was published must be checked. It's not there among those subscribed by the ULL.
  • You must enter the request form by identifying yourself with the ULL credentials and enter the data of the requested document (the more precise the request, the faster its processing will be).
  • If original documents are requested through interlibrary loan, you must indicate in the "Notes" field where you wish to consult them: the General and Humanities Library or the Library of a center.
  • If available DOI The document you wish to request must be entered in the corresponding field, and all the data of its bibliographic reference will automatically be loaded into the request form.
  • If the reference was obtained from a search performed in MEDLINE or PubMed, the PMID number (*) can be entered in the “PubMed ID” field of the form and the request boxes will be automatically filled in.
  • Once registered, from the "User Menu", you will be able to make new requests and check the status of those already requested.

(*) This stands for PubMed Identifier. It is a unique identifier assigned to each record when it is entered into the PubMed database by the documentalists at the National Library of Medicine. It uniquely identifies each article indexed in the database. If you use this identifier in the Document Retrieval Service request form, the article data will be automatically populated, thus preventing potential typing errors.

Cost of service
  • Although the Interlibrary Loan Service is subsidized for the university community, it is not a free service, as the lending institutions charge for sending documents. Therefore, while it does not affect the user, it is important to request only the documents that are truly necessary.
  • Requests from teaching and research staff (PDI) and administrative and service staff (PAS) that generate a cost exceeding €60 will require authorization from the Library Director to be processed as subsidies. To obtain this authorization, the following form must be completed and submitted: this form.
  • Student requests that incur costs exceeding €20 will require authorization from the Library Director to be processed for subsidy. To obtain this authorization, the following form must be completed and submitted: this form.

Request limit

To guarantee access to the service for the entire university community, a monthly request limit:

  • PDI: 30
  • Postgraduate and PTGAS Student: 20
  • Undergraduate Student: 10
  • ULL Alumni: 10
