For students wishing to access the Degree in Biology, it is recommended that they choose the Science and Technology modality. Among the modality subjects, the most recommended for the first year are: Biology and Geology, Physics and Chemistry, Mathematics I; and for the second year: Biology, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Mathematics II, Chemistry, Physics.
Students who study the Biology Degree will receive at least 12 credits in English. Therefore, the level of English required will be, at least, that acquired by passing the University Entrance Exams. It is intended that throughout the Degree, students will become familiar with the specific scientific language of Biology.
It would be highly recommended that people who are going to begin studying this Degree should have the same knowledge, aptitudes and skills as the profile of a Science student who is comfortable with the instrumental subjects of mathematics, physics and chemistry, and who has a significant foundation of fundamental biological notions. In addition, they should have the following characteristics: curiosity and observation skills to understand the problems of Nature, the ability to work in a team, interpretation skills, relationships and interdisciplinarity and, of course, characteristics of tenacity, enthusiasm, persistence in effort and a determined vocation for this vast field of Science.

The Permanent Observatory for Monitoring Labour Insertion (OPSIL, a collaborative project between the Canarian Employment Service and the Canarian Business Foundation of the University of La Laguna, funded by 80% by the European Social Fund) publishes an annual Report on Labour Insertion by Specialty that includes students who graduated from the Faculty of Biology of the University of La Laguna. These studies can be consulted on the website. In addition, there is data on labour insertion of students who graduated in Biology prepared for the White Paper on the Biology Degree of the European Convergence Programme of the ANECA.
The results of these reports show that Biology studies offer attractive, broad-spectrum job prospects beyond the commonly assigned field of Teaching and Research, with the most notable being for healthcare professionals, industry (mainly pharmaceutical, agri-food and chemical), agricultural and livestock industries, the environment, information, documentation and dissemination professionals, as well as commerce, marketing and business management and organisation professionals.
