Denomination

Graduate in Computer Engineering from the University of La Laguna.

Center responsible for the teaching leading to the degree

Higher School of Engineering and Technology (ESIT).
University of La Laguna (ULL).

Type of teaching

The teachings planned for this degree will be face-to-face, although they will be supported by the Virtual Campus institutional of the University itself.

Number of new admission places offered

There will be 155 places available for new students.

This forecast is based on the number of students who, in recent years, have formalised their enrolment as new students in these studies at the ULL. The current academic staff and material resources allow the teaching-learning activities proposed for the degree covered by this report to be undertaken.

Number of tuition credits per student and academic period and enrollment requirements

Number of credits of the degree

The Bachelor's degree consists of 240 ECTS, which each student must complete and pass in order to obtain the Bachelor's degree. The degree includes five possible itineraries, in accordance with the specifications set out in the Resolution of 8 June 2009 of the General Secretariat of Universities (BOE of 4 August 2009) which establishes recommendations for the proposal by Universities of application reports for official degrees in the fields of Computer Engineering, Technical Computer Engineering and Chemical Engineering. In order to obtain the degree, in addition to the basic training credits and credits common to the branch of Computer Science, a complete block of 48 credits corresponding to one of the five itineraries must be completed.

Minimum number of European tuition credits per student and academic period, and, where applicable, permanence rules

The conditions that will allow students to enrol in the degree will be those established by the ULL in its Registration Regulatory Instruction (IRMA), drawn up for each academic year, and those higher-level regulations from which the IRMA is derived established by the Department of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands. As a reference, the IRMA for the 2008-2009 academic year establishes, for new students, that:

Students who enroll for the first time must necessarily enroll in the first full year in traditional plans, and in the first semester and the annual subjects of the first year, if they are renewed study plans.

For the Degree in Computer Engineering, it is recommended that students enroll in the first year for 60 ECTS credits. In addition, and in order to allow part-time studies, the minimum amount of credits required for first-time enrollment in the Degree is 30, with 15% of places being dedicated to this type of enrollment. In this case, the selection will be made by the center itself under the regulations and deadlines by which the University of La Laguna regulates this type of enrollment.

As regards the continuation of studies already started, there is no minimum number of credits, and students may enrol in individual subjects regardless of the course to which they correspond. The only limitation will be derived from the academic obligations established by the study plan: Time order, beginning of one of the itineraries, completion of external internships and final degree project.

Rules of stay

The regulation on permanence in the Degree will be that established by the ULL.

In summary, this regulation establishes the possible non-permanence of students in the degree in the event of not passing any subject in the first year, delimiting several situations:

  • Failing all subjects in the first year. This means that they will not be able to re-enrol in the degree, although they may do so once in another ULL degree.
  • Failing some subjects and not taking others. Students may register for the same degree once, provided they can justify the reason for not taking the exams. If the circumstance repeats itself the following year, they will not be able to register for the degree again.
  • Students have not taken any subjects in the first year. They may enroll again only once, for the same degree, but not in the following academic year.

In addition, the regulations establish a maximum of 6 calls that students can complete to pass a subject. There will be the possibility of opting for a seventh call if the Social Council of the University authorizes it and certain circumstances are met: the student has less than 36 credits left to complete the degree, or more than two academic years have passed after completing the seventh call.
