Degree in Computer Engineering

Final Degree Project

The Final Degree Project is one of the subjects of the fourth year of the Degree in Computer Engineering and consists of 12 ECTS credits. Its detailed description is in the Teaching Guide, available in the section corresponding to the fourth course.

All coordination is done through the virtual classroom of the subject in the Institutional Virtual Campus of the ULL.

Students must have completed 174 credits, including all of the Basic Training credits and those corresponding to the Block of Technological Fundamentals of Computer Engineering, and a minimum of 18 ECTS from the Professional Practice Block, in addition to at least 24 ECTS from one of the itineraries contemplated.

The Final Degree Project will consist of an original piece of work to be carried out individually, which must be presented and defended before a panel. It will be a project in the field of specific technologies in Computer Engineering, of an eminently professional nature and in which the skills acquired in the previous training period are synthesized and integrated.

The Final Degree Project must verify that students have achieved the general and specific competencies of the degree. It will consist of the conception and development of a computer system, application or service of sufficient complexity, in which the hardware, software or both perspectives will be integrated.

The level of development of transversal competences linked to the search, selection and cataloging of information, the ability to communicate in public, project planning and management, and knowledge of the responsibility derived, where applicable, from the application of current regulations and legislation will also be assessed.

The school will have a range of projects for the completion of the Final Degree Project. Each project will be supervised by a member of the teaching staff, who will be the tutor of the TFG, and will be aimed at assessing the skills associated with the degree. In addition, each TFG may have the collaboration of a co-tutor. The student will develop the bulk of the work independently, with the support received in the rest of the activities. This task will culminate with the preparation of a written report and a public presentation and defence of the same. It will be required that both the summary and the conclusions and main contributions be written, in addition to Spanish, in another language of the European Union, preferably in English. In addition, the defence of the conclusions will be carried out in English.

The teaching staff that supervises the Final Degree Project will provide the student with the specific topic, objectives and scope of the project, which must be related to the field of the degree. Likewise, all the information and resources necessary for the start and development of the project will be provided.

During the development of the work, the tutoring teacher will periodically check the adequate progress of the project through the relevant guidance, supervision and individualized tutoring of the students.

The TFG Committee is responsible for organizing the activities of the Final Degree Project. It is coordinated through a virtual classroom, where all the minutes and documents generated by it are stored.

The TFG will begin with the assignment of the work to be carried out by the students. To this end, the TFG Committee has established the following procedure:

  1. Offers of TFG projects by teaching staff.
  2. Request for change in the TFG assignment of the previous year: both students and teachers will have the option at the beginning of the semester to request a change in the assignment made in the previous year.
  3. Publication of the list of students: The assignment of work will be done in order, according to the average grade obtained by the students at the time of carrying out this procedure.
  4. Publication of the list of TFG offers from the teaching staff through the virtual classroom of the subject.
  5. Presentation of preliminary projects by students: Any student who wishes to do so may present his or her idea for his or her TFG through the virtual classroom of the subject. This preliminary project will be evaluated by the TFG Committee. If accepted, volunteer teachers will be requested to tutor all areas of knowledge involved in teaching the degree.
  6. Application: Each student must submit his/her list of preferences for the teaching staff offers published in point 4.
  7. Publication of provisional assignment of jobs.
  8. Period for claiming or renouncing provisional allocation.
  9. Publication of the final assignment of jobs.

Steps 3 to 9 of this procedure will be repeated twice each academic year, at the beginning of each quarter.

The dates corresponding to each step of the procedure will be approved each academic year by the Final Degree Project Committee and published in the virtual classroom of the subject.

Students will use the procedure for submitting their Final Degree Project through the ULL's electronic office to upload the PDF of their TFG for signature by each student and the tutor.

Students will download the PDF document with the two signatures from the Headquarters and upload it to the virtual classroom report submission task for the subject.

In addition, students must also fill out the details of the proposed committee for the defence of their TFG in the virtual classroom. This information will be provided to each student by the teaching staff that supervises them.

The deadlines for these two submissions will be approved by the Final Degree Project Committee for each call and published in the virtual classroom of the subject.

Works submitted after the deadline for a call will not be processed, nor will they be eligible for defense before a tribunal.

The final grade for a TFG consists of the following sections:

  • Tutor report (20%): This report will include the grades for the activities carried out during the development of the TFG.
  • Report on the thesis (60%): Each member of the committee will fill out a report. This report evaluates two aspects: the overall evaluation of the work and the evaluation of the report submitted by the students.
  • Presentation Report (20%): Each member of the jury, after completing the public defense, must complete his or her presentation report.

The final grade sheet will be filled out with the grades from the previous reports. For the grade for the report on the thesis and on the presentation, the average of the grades given by the three members of the tribunal will be taken. The final grade will be the weighted average of the three previous sections.
