Master's Degree in Philosophy Research

Access, admission and registration

Admission is the set of requirements necessary to pursue university studies. Compliance with these requirements is prior to admission to the courses to be pursued.

The Master's Degree in Philosophy Research is aimed at:

1. Graduates and Licentiates in Philosophy.

2. Graduates and Licentiates in the area of social sciences, philology and humanities.

3. Other graduates or holders of degrees from diverse backgrounds with qualifications equivalent to or higher than the degree.

For admission profiles 2 and 3, the Academic Committee will study the formative coherence of the (non-philosophical) studies undertaken, which, depending on the Master's Specialisation chosen, may reorient the chosen training paths. This reorientation is not mandatory but rather indicative, given that training supplements are not required for access to the Master's.

However, access to the Master's degree may be obtained in each of the following cases:

a. Possession of an official Spanish university degree or another degree issued by a higher education institution in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that qualifies applicants in the country issuing the degree for access to Master's degree courses.

b. Graduates from educational systems outside the EHEA may access official Master's studies without having to have their degrees recognised. The University must first verify that they have a level of training equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degrees and that the qualification obtained qualifies them, in the country that issued the degree, for access to postgraduate studies. Access via this route will in no case imply the recognition of the previous qualification held by the interested party, nor its recognition for any purpose other than to study the Master's studies.

c. In order to access Master's studies, those who prove that they hold a foreign qualification that has not been recognised in Spain must request, prior to the admission process, verification of the level of training equivalent to one of the official Spanish qualifications.

The request for verification of equivalent training level will be submitted to the Branches of Knowledge Committees, who will resolve the requests. The request will be processed in the manner established in the admission and registration rules and instructions. You can consult here the documents recognised as proof of language skills. In addition, you can consult the Collaboration Agreement between the ULL and the ULPGC for the reciprocal recognition of Certificates of Accreditation of foreign language skills at level B1 and exemption from subjects as an academic requirement that enables admission to Master's degrees (to view the document, Click here).

Check the following link for the relationship of official ULL Degree qualifications whose completion recognises the achievement of foreign language skills (at least level B1) and the List of subjects from the different official ULL Degree courses, the completion of which involves attaining foreign language skills (level B1)

In addition, the University of La Laguna, in compliance with the provisions of Decree 168/2008, of July 22 (Official Gazette of the Canary Islands No. 154, of August 1), establishes that in order to access this master's degree, it will be an essential requirement to prove a B1 level of English. Check the Documents recognized as proof of language skills. In addition, you can consult the following list of subjects that ULL and ULPGC, for the purposes of enrolment in a master's degree at the University of La Laguna, entails acquiring a B1 level of English.

Admission is the allocation of places offered by the ULL to study official university courses among those who, fulfilling the access requirements indicated above (Graduate/Bachelor's degree and/or approved foreign qualification and B1 in English), have requested them.

Admission is carried out through the procedure established for this purpose in the ULL Regulations. The student must attach all official documents that prove the profile required for access, his/her academic record and his/her curriculum vitae, through which he/she will be evaluated for admission to the master's degree according to criteria of equality, merit and capacity.

The body responsible for admission that will evaluate the applications will be the Academic Committee of the degree, whose composition is determined in article 30 of the Regulations for Official Master's Degree Courses at the University of La LagunaArticle 31 of the aforementioned regulation states that the proposal for admission of students is one of the functions of the Academic Commission.

As for admission criteria, in accordance with the Regulations of the different universities that make up the Program, admission to a Master's degree will be decided by the centers at the proposal of the Interuniversity Academic Commission of the Master's degree, which will be composed of 11 members who will be distributed among the universities (based on the number of professors from each university participating), as follows:

Number of members per university:

  • The Lagoon: 2
  • Murcia: 4
  • Zaragoza: 3

Furthermore, each university will have a coordinator in charge of the Master's degree, and the person from the University of Murcia will also be responsible for general coordination.

One member of the Commission from each university will be the representative of the Centre where the Master's degree is taught.

In the event that there are more applications than places offered, the selection of those admitted will be carried out by the Academic Committee of the Master's Degree, which will use the following criteria:

  • An evaluation of the academic record (65%).
  • An assessment of merits of special relevance (participation in conferences, published works) or professional (teaching philosophical subjects in non-university education, participation in philosophical societies) in relation to the program (25%).
  • Motivation, interests, etc., assessed by the Committee in the interview (10%). In the personal interview, two fundamental aspects will be taken into account: clarity in the formulation of the research and/or professional objectives and interest in the research career.

In any case, admission to the studies will be decided by the Center at the proposal of the Academic Committee of the Master's Degree.

The Center will publish the lists of those admitted to the Master's Degree once it has received the proposal from the Academic Committee.

Students must submit an application for admission to official Master's courses and, after being admitted to the corresponding Master's course, they will proceed to formalize their enrollment in the manner, within the timeframes and with the requirements established in the admission and enrollment rules and instructions that will be approved for these purposes by resolution of the Rector for each academic year.

Under no circumstances will admission imply any modification of the academic and, where applicable, professional effects corresponding to the previous qualification held by the interested party, nor its recognition for purposes other than that of pursuing Master's courses.

Enrolment is the formal instrument through which one acquires the status of university student. Before enrolling, students who wish to take the Master's degree must meet the entry requirements and have obtained a place through the admission process.

The access, admission and registration instructions published annually contain the information necessary for the correct development of the process (modalities, periods, calendar, documentation to be submitted, payment methods, etc.).
