Lithographic Drawing Material Applied to Aluminium Plates
Abstract
Achieving a finely detailed lithograph on aluminium means that the artist must master the process from drawing to printing, including processing. Drawing on fine grain (220) anodized aluminium has a set of physical and chemical implications from the composition of the pencils, bars and inks to the subtle variations in the exposure of the image and its subsequent printing. This article solely analyses the drawing stage, looking at the materials by category and make, in their addition as well as subtraction, and always in relation to the support. Solid materials; aqueous, oily or alcohol solutions; different ways of clearing the plate, before and after applying the acid are the main sections to be found by those practicing the fascinating art of lithography on metal.
