Abstract

The text is an approach to the intricate worlds of meaning in paintings. It tackles the relationship between the possibilities of meaning in contemporary pictorial imagery and standard interpretation models based on the linguistic paradigm. It highlights the need to revise and update our way of looking at and understanding a painted image, to review the use of the linguistic model that gives rise to interpretative fallacies, especially when intending to express the total meaning of a work, because it reduces and excludes other possibilities. The intention is not to dismiss it but to state its inadequacy for contemporary art when applied in its strict sense.
