Admission and graduation profile

Admission profile

Since there are several access routes, the main skills accredited by students are described below, depending on their access route.

The appropriate entry profile is considered to be that which refers to the knowledge, skills and capacities of a high school level. Specifically, the personal characteristics (sensitivities, aptitudes, specific capacities, etc.) and academic characteristics recommended for beginning studies in a Degree in Design are the following:

  • Ability to express oneself correctly in writing and orally.
  • Self-learning capacity.
  • Basic knowledge and interest in culture in its different expressions and contexts.
  • Interest and basic knowledge of design in its historical and contemporary manifestations.
  • Sensitivity in the field of design and visual arts.
  • Acceptance, sensitivity and curiosity about cultural diversity and its manifestations.
  • Willingness to make decisions independently.
  • Ability to defend one's own ideas and receptivity to critical observations.
  • Willingness to work as a team.
  • Consistency and self-demand at work.
  • Ability to plan your personal work.
  • Ability to adapt to cultural and technical changes.
  • Ability to adapt to the use of new technologies and computer advances.
  • Familiarity with the Internet as a source of documentation and information exchange.
  • Willingness to carry out work autonomously and creatively.
  • Willingness to learn and use several languages.

In terms of the programming of subjects and specific facilities for the degree, it can be considered that new students are increasingly familiar with computers and have access to them at home. In addition, there are subjects in ESO and Bachillerato that provide students with sufficient training in basic computing, so we must consider that they enter the degree with sufficient competence in computer literacy. Therefore, we believe that it is no longer necessary to program content on basic computing, although subjects oriented to the mastery of specific programs for design in its different aspects are required, as well as training in ICT appropriate to its use in research and documentation.

Graduation Profile

The graduate profile is the skills, knowledge and abilities that a student must have acquired upon completion of the degree. This information is collected in the section on competencies/learning outcomes defined for the title.

The Degree in Design from the University of La Laguna offers a generic training aimed at preparing for the exercise of professional activities, promoting, among others, the development of the following capacities:

  • The ability to adapt to rapid changes in the environment and in the discipline itself, considering that design (like art) is frequently found in border territories of multiple disciplines whose content and even nomenclature can change depending on multiple circumstances.
  • The ability to adapt quickly to the impact of new media and technologies, which are increasingly requiring the replacement of traditional technical skills with more generic ones in an increasingly rapid and interdisciplinary manner.
  • The ability to combine the exercise of creative skills and the faculty of anticipation and innovation to articulate innovative ideas in the field of visual culture.
  • The ability to develop a clear and innovative visual grammar, a prerequisite for acquiring technical skills in specific design disciplines.

Ultimately, the Design Graduate will be able to identify and understand design problems as well as develop original creation processes, both their own and for the industry in general, through mastery of different techniques and new technologies.
