Quality assurance system

The Degree’s Internal Quality Assurance System (SAIC) (formerly Internal Quality Assurance System -SGIC-) includes the procedures established in Annex 1 of RD 1393/2007, specifically responding to section 9 and 8.2 of the Verification/Modification Report of the official degrees:

  • Evaluation and improvement of the quality of teaching
  • Assessment and improvement of the quality of teaching staff
  • Guarantee the quality of external placements
  • Ensuring the quality of mobility programmes.
  • Analysis of graduate labour market integration
  • Analysis of the satisfaction of the different groups involved (students, academic, administrative and service staff, graduates, etc.).
  • Attention to suggestions or complaints

The mechanisms and procedures established in the SAIC guarantee the continuous collection and analysis of information and results relevant to the efficient management of the degree.

The bodies responsible for the SAIC are committed to guaranteeing the quality of the degree programmes offered at the university and its centres and to ensuring the continuous improvement of their results. They are structured at two levels:

  • Institutional
    • Vice-Rector’s Office with responsibility for quality

To direct and promote the implementation and development of the SAICs, as they reinforce the quality assurance and continuous improvement of the centres and qualifications, facilitating the monitoring, accreditation and certification processes. It is also responsible for providing the appropriate institutional support for the development of assessment and quality programmes, guaranteeing their sustainability over time.

    • Quality Assessment and Enhancement Unit – Technical Quality Unit

The Quality Assessment and Improvement Unit (UEMC) and its Technical Quality Unit (UTC) are responsible for the management and planning of the design, implementation and assessment processes of the SAIC, necessary to guarantee the continuous improvement of the centre and its qualifications, as well as the achievement of the established objectives, responding to the needs and expectations of the stakeholders.

The UTC is also responsible for preparing and providing the framework documentation related to the assessment and quality programmes, and for providing technical advice and training to the agents involved. It promotes the development of the processes through appropriate coordination with academic and quality managers, committees, self-assessment working groups, quality agencies and other bodies/entities involved.

  • Faculty/University
    • Centre Management Team

This body, and in particular its dean or director, is responsible for directing and promoting the quality and evaluation programmes at the institution. Its team includes a faculty quality manager, who will be responsible for coordinating and developing the management of the processes related to the implementation and assessment of the SAIC and the assessment of degree programmes.

    • Centre/Title Quality Manager(s)

The centre/degree quality managers, who will be integrated as members of the Quality Commission, will carry out general coordination functions, among which the following stand out:

  • Supporting the dean’s team in the development of assessment and quality programmes in the centre.
  • Promoting and leading the implementation of the SAIC.
  • Participating in the design, implementation and evaluation of the degrees.

In relation to the Degree Quality Assurance System (SAIC)

  • Manage, review and update the SAIC documentation.
  • To carry out the analysis of information derived from the SAIC procedures and to inform the Quality Committee of its development (imbalances, improvement actions, etc.).
  • To manage internal communication with the agents involved in the SAIC.
  • Channelling claims, complaints and suggestions to the Quality Committee and articulating the response actions.
  • Promote the culture of evaluation and quality among the different interest groups.
  • To guarantee transparency and accountability to stakeholders, supervising the updating of the content of the website (publication of information, relevant results of the degree, etc.).
  • To act as interlocutor with the Vice-Rector’s Office with competences in quality and the UTC in all actions related to the field of institutional assessment and quality.

In relation to the degree programmes

  • To promote and participate in the processes of design, modification, monitoring and renewal of the accreditation of official qualifications.
  • To supervise the implementation of the degrees, in accordance with the provisions of the Degree Verification Report and/or its subsequent modifications, and, together with the Quality Committee, to monitor them.
  • Participate in the analysis, evolution, reflection and proposal of improvement actions based on the results of academic performance and satisfaction of the qualifications.
  • To support the Quality Committee in the management of the Teaching Guides of the official degrees.
    • Centre/Section/Degree Quality Committee

This is a body that intervenes in the planning and monitoring tasks of the SAIC, and acts as one of the mechanisms for the effective participation of interest groups through which the quality and continuous improvement of the centre and its qualifications is guaranteed. It is made up of the management team, the quality manager and representatives of the centre’s different interest groups (teaching and research staff, students, graduates, administrative and service staff, employers, etc.). Its functions include, among others:

  • Participating in the design, review and updating of the SAIC documentation.
  • Verifying the monitoring and implementation of the SAIC.
  • Analysing and resolving, together with the quality manager, claims, complaints and suggestions.
  • Study and, where appropriate, approve the implementation of proposals for improvement of the SAIC and its qualifications.
  • To guarantee the processes of review, assessment and improvement of the training programmes.
  • To supervise the monitoring and implementation of the degree programmes, in accordance with the provisions of the Degree Verification Report and/or its subsequent modifications.
  • To carry out the analysis, evolution and reflection based on the indicators and associated results (satisfaction, academic performance rates, etc.).
  • Approve the Teaching Guides of the official degrees.
