Abstract

The stated objective of the Quixote is break up the authority and credibility that the books of chivalry have among common people. Traditionally Cervantism has resisted acknowledging this that was considered a limitation of the masterpiece. Nevertheless, it is this initial determination the one that leads to the creation of a new literary gender, that emerging from the criticism of the interaction of the most popular gender of the extant, together with the printing press and the reader. In the Quixote Cervantes analyses two types of reading derived from two different interactions among the gender, the medium and the reader. Such a reflection, that means a severe positioning with respect to the narrator’s authority, will give birth to the modern novel.
