Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript has not been previously published, nor is it currently submitted for consideration to another journal (or an explanation has been provided in the Comments to the Editor).
  • The manuscript file has been submitted in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word or RTF format.
  • Where available, all URLs for references are included.
  • Text is single-spaced; written in 12-point Times New Roman font; italics are used instead of underlining (except for URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The document or component being submitted has been fully anonymised.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author guidelines, avalaible in the "Submissions" section.
  • Authors are aware of and comply with the journal's Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement, and the journal's recommendations on Good Editorial Practices in Gender Equality.
  • The articles published in Cuadernos del Cemyrare available on the web portal of the Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de La Laguna. The are open access under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC 4.0).

    Authors that wish to publish their papers in this journal agree with the Intellectual Property Policy.

    If the paper were to include third-party-owned illustrations or any copyright-protected material, written permission must be obtained from the rights holder for its reproduction.
  • Authors hold sole responsibility for the views and facts in each paper. The Instituto de Estudios Medievales y Renacentistas de la Universidad de La Laguna and this journal shall not be held liable, under any circumstances, for the credibility or authenticity of papers.

Author Guidelines

SUBMISSION RULES

All submissions made to Cuadernos del CEMYR must be anonymised. Original manuscripts will be submitted according to the 7th edition of the APA (American Psychological Association) style.

In order to apply these submission rules, please follow the instructions below:

1. Manuscripts should be submitted as text files of common word processors for PC or Macintosh (preferably saved as DOC or ASCII files). They must not exceed over 25-30 pages: approximately 75 000 characters, 12 000 words (Times New Roman or equivalent, size 12, double line spacing; footnotes, written in Times New Roman or equivalent, size 10, single-spaced), including figures, tables, footnotes and the bibliography. 

2. The texts submitted will include the following information on the first page:

- Title of the pape (if the article is written in Spanish, in Spanish and English; if it is written in English, in English and Spanish; if it is written in another language, in that language, in Spanish and in English).

- Name and surname(s) of the author(s).

- Academic affiliation.

- Email.

- ORCID iD

- Abstract (250 words) and keywords (between 4 and 8) (if the article is written in Spanish, in Spanish and English; if it is written in English, in English and Spanish; if it is written in another language, in that language, in Spanish and English).

- Research projects, Supporting Agencies or other sources of funding received by the author for this research, if applicable.

- Acknowledgements, if applicable

2.1 If an article is signed by two or more authors, the order of signature will be determined, by default, in alphabetical order of their first surname. The alteration of this order will mean the assignment of the main authorship of the article in order of signature (1st author, 2nd author, 3rd author, etc.).

3. Articles should have an introduction, main text and conclusions. The introduction will briefly present the aim of the study, theoretical and conceptual issues, method and sources. If deemed necessary, theinitial section following the introduction may be devoted to a more detailed explanation of these elements. The conclusion will focus on original contributions and future lines of research and debate.

4. Reviews must not exceed five (5) pages (maximum length: 8.000 characters,1.500 words;  Times New Roman or equivalent, size 12, double line spacing). Reviews eill nos be anonymous. The author's name and surname(s), academic affiliation, e-mail and ORCID iD will be included at the end of the review.

5. The text must be left justified. Do not split words across lines or insert page breaks. Do not insert line breaks (by pressing the Return or Enter key) at the end of a line but do insert them at the end of a paragraph. Do not add an extra line between paragraphs.

6. If necessary, the body of the text shall be separated into sections and numbered using Arabic numerals, starting with 0. INTRODUCTION, for example. The same system will be used if there are sub-sections: 1.1. Title, 1.2 Title, etc.; the next sub-section will be 1.1.1. Title, 1.1.2. Title. For quotations, use single quotation marks (‘ ’) first. Use double quotation marks (“ ”) for quoted matter within a quotation (e.g. Webber saw it as embodying ‘the typical power of the “non-economic’”).

7. For quotations that are more than five lines, place quotations in a free-standing indented block of text in font size 11. When quoting a complete sentence, place punctuation within the quotation marks. When quoting a word or incomplete sentence, place punctuation outside the quotation.

8. Footnotes should be placed after punctuation marks. For quotations, footnote numbers will appear outside the closing quotation mark. Footnote numbers will be in superscript without brackets. Footnotes will be numbered and appear in the footer.

9. Charts, tables, graphs, maps, etc., that are included in the manuscript must be original work. These elements will be integrated as illustrations into the text in the published version of the paper. Illustrations must provide important information for the work, not repetitive with respect to the text, so it is recommended not to include banal illustrations. 

- Illustrations must be submitted on computer support, preferably in TIF format. These illustrations shall always be of the quality required to reproduce (minimum size of 15 x 10 cm and minimum resolution of 300 dpi, although 600 dpi is recommended).

- Where scales are required, they will be graphical and not numerical. They will be numbered with their corresponding titles and authors will indicate where they will appear. When referring to them in the text, use their number in case they are repositioned according to the text alignment.

- All illustrations must have an explanatory caption, stating the source of the data. The captions of the illustrations must be submitted on a separate page, in correlative order. They must specify the complete identification data, including the authorship or origin in brackets.

- If the manuscript contains photographs, please contact the editor to confirm the medium and characteristics required for optimum quality.

- For illustrations, a distinction must be made between Figures (drawings, maps and line plans), Tables, Plates (photographs and slides) and Graphics. Illustrations should be submitted in separate files and a complete list of illustrations, numbered in Arabic numerals, in the same order in which they are cited in the text, should be attached in a separate text document.

- Formulas shall be included in the text with the Microsoft Equation Editor.

10. Limit the use of italics within the text to book titles, journal or newspaper names, artworks, foreign words, and quotations that require emphasis, which will not suffice with the use of roman text, according to the 7th edition of the APA style.

11. Punctuation immediately following italics must be in roman type.

12. Do not use full stops in acronyms (e.g. ULL for the Universidad de La Laguna, CAAM for the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno, etc.

13. When using the term “etc.”, do not add an ellipsis.

14. Ellipses must only be used in square brackets ([...]) to indicate that text is missing from a citation.

15. Square brackets can appear inside round brackets ([]) but not vice versa.

16. When a word appears in italics inside round or square brackets, these punctuation marks must be in roman type.

17. A comma must never precede a round bracket or em-dash.

18. There will be no thousands separator in four-digit numbers, e.g. 1000. – For five-digit and larger numbers, use non-breaking spaces to separate thousands, e.g. 10 000 and 2 526 025.

19. Em-dashes (–) may be used to punctuate a sentence instead of commas or brackets. En-dashes (-) must only be used to hyphenate words.

20. Weights and measurements must be written in singular, lower case and without punctuation: kg, cm, m, etc.

21. Avoid overusing abbreviations unless the frequency of the word in the text, for reasons of speed and efficiency, requires such.

22. If necessary, in text, abbreviate “number” to “No.”.

23. Idemibidempassim must be written in full, in italics.

24. Do not use bold, instead use italics or small caps to make necessary distinctions, where necessary.

It is necessary to develop the first names of authors, editors, translators, etc.

Footnotes and references within the text

- Footnotes must be used for clarification purposes only. Footnotes are not intended to record the bibliographical references cited in the text. They may be used to record references to archival and other primary sources wich have been managed and consulted for this research.

 – Bibliographic references will be cited in the text in parentheses according to the author-date style (APA). All references only cite the author, year and page as follows: (Vorholt, 2017: 154). These references will be included in the reference list at the end of the manuscript. Other examples of citing references if an author is cited in the body of the text or the footnotes:

the American referencing system, including the reference list at the end of the text and any references to this list in the body of the text or in the notes.  and all references that only cite the author, year and page, will be included in the text, as follows: (Vorholt, 2017: 154). 

“... as Vorholt states (2017: 154)”

“... as is the case of Santo Domingo de Silos monastery (Pacheco Caballero, 1999)”

If relevant, you must state the first and last page of the citation: (Vorholt, 2017: 154–157).

Reference list

– They will be limited only to the works already cited in the text and will be included at the end of the article. In this section, references will appear in alphabetical-chronological order, according to the 7th edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) style.

– In so far as is possible, cited works must include a Digital Object Identifier (DOI). For instance:

Bevan, Andrew (2015). The data deluge. Antiquity, 89 (348), 1473-1484. https://doi.org/10.15184/aqy.2015.102.

– For references retrieved from the Internet that do not have a DOI, the website where the reference is hosted will be listed whenever possible (in particular when page numbers are not given to narrow down the reference). For instance:
