The Experimental Garden with Native Plants of Tenerife

A sustainable space for the study of Canary Island flora from an ornamental point of view at the University of La Laguna

Information about species

Visitors to the garden will find signs next to the plants with basic information about the species. These include the scientific and common names of the species, the botanical family to which it belongs, as well as various icons and graphics that reflect its natural distribution across the islands, its degree of endemism, and its ecology.

Three categories of use in gardening have been established as a reference guideline. Each species is assigned a green, yellow, or red icon, taking into account different aspects such as the degree of protection of the taxon (species or subspecies), if any, the category of endemicity, or the hybridizing nature of the genus to which it belongs.

The garden also features an information panel to help interpret the different symbols and content on the signs, as well as the criteria used in their creation. Please note that all the information provided may require occasional updates due to changes that occur periodically regarding nomenclature, geographical distribution, or regulations affecting the species.
