The Experimental Garden with Native Plants of Tenerife
A sustainable space for the study of Canary Island flora from an ornamental point of view at the University of La Laguna
Constructions
The garden has simple stairs, low walls and stone borders to overcome the differences in level and delimit the planting areas.
Basalt stone, collected from the school's own grounds, was used for this purpose; this same material was used to decorate the pools and construct the small ravine. For the steps of the stairs and the ravine passage, carved blocks of tufa stone, salvaged from nearby old buildings, were used.
Plant-based materials from the farm and the garden itself are reused in different ways:
The trunks are transformed into benches, the Washingtonia stipes cut into wheels serve as Japanese steps, and the leaf sheaths of the Canary Island date palm function as borders to contain the soil.
