Author Guidelines

Editorial Standards

To submit an article, a review or a note to the Revista de Filología de la Universidad de La Laguna it is required to have a user account and to be logged in. Logging in should not only be used to submit proposals online, but also to check their status throughout the review process. If the author has not a user account, he/she should create one by registering in the platform.

The journal is published twice a year. The deadlines for submission of originals are June 30 (first semester issue) and December 31 (second semester issue).

The original proposals should be presented in Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx), Open Office (.odt) or RTF formats, and they will be published in the language in which they were submitted (Spanish, English, French or German).

The authors must also complete the submission metadata, ensuring that title, abstract and keywords, in the language in which the paper is written and another in English, are included. Keywords should be typed in individually, either pressing Enter or Tab after each one. They should never be copied and pasted in blocks.

Margins and Typography

The document should have 2.5 cm margins on all four sides and single line spacing.

Times New Roman font will be used (12 points for the main text and 10 for notes, highlighted quotations and bibliography). The use of bold or underlining is not allowed. The use of italics should be limited to titles of books, names of magazines or newspapers, works of art, foreign words, or for emphasis.

So-called low or Spanish quotation marks should be used.

Length of Articles

Articles should contain a minimum of 6000 words and a maximum of 15000 words. They should include an abstract in Spanish and another in English, of a maximum of 200 words each; the key words (maximum of 5) should also be included in both languages. For reviews and notes, a minimum of 1500 words and a maximum of 2500 words is recommended.

Title and Author Details

The title of the article should be centered and in lower case (maximum: 100 characters: 12 point font size). The name and affiliation of the author of the paper must not be included, as this information will be inserted in the metadata requested by the system when submitting the manuscript. If there is more than one author, the order of authorship should be indicated. Anonymization instructions hereThe ORCID iD should not be included either, as it will have been previously assigned in the author's personal registration data.

Then, separated by three returns (enter/intro key), the Abstract and the Keywords should be included, followed by the title (in lower case), the Abstract and the Keywords in English (see previous issues of the journal).

1. Except otherwise indicated, text alignment should be justified and hyphenation should not be used to break words at the end of the line.

2. Footnotes should be placed at the bottom of the page, consecutively numbered, and they should be single-spaced. Footnote numbers should always be placed next to the word, before the punctuation mark. They should only be explanatory, and those which are used to cite the author, year and page (APA Standards) should be included in the text. It is not allowed to include footnotes to the title of the paper, to the title of chapters, sections and subsections, or to the authorship data.

3. Quotations inserted in the text (less than three lines) should be placed between low or Spanish quotation marks («...»), in round letters. Omissions within quotations should be indicated by three dots in square brackets [...]. If other quotation marks are enclosed within a quotation, high quotation marks ("...") should be used.

4. Quotations longer than three lines should be placed in a free-standing block of text omitting quotation marks, with the entire quote indented 1.5 cm from the left margin, and using 10-point font.

5. If the text is divided into sections, the main title should be capitalized and centered and for the subsections, left-aligned, the following should be used: 1.1. Small caps; 1.1.1. Italics; 1.1.1.1. Roman. The headings of sections and subsections should be separated from the preceding text by two spaces above and one space below.

The nature of the material must be specified by selecting the appropriate option in the dropdown menu available during the file upload process. All illustrations must be submitted in "JPG," "TIFF," or "GIF" format, with sufficient quality for reproduction (300 dpi recommended) and properly labeled according to the specified guidelines. The authors of the works are responsible for obtaining the necessary reproduction permissions, if applicable.

7. Regarding reviews, all the data of the work reviewed will be included at the beginning, following the APA Standards.

8. Regarding articles, bibliographical references should be placed at the end of the work, separated from the text by four returns (enter/intro key), under the heading BIBLIOGRAPHY (centered), arranged alphabetically by authors' surnames followed by their first names, and following APA Standards.
