La fortuna neogriega de los clásicos griegos: La Batracomiomaquia de Ioannis Vilarás (1771-1823)
Abstract
This work considers the vicissitudes of some specific works from the classical Greek tradition: those chosen by enlightened Greek authors in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. These authors picked them with concrete aims, such as using them as literary exercise in spoken Greek in order to bring about the formation of a community of speakers. This paper pays attention to the relationship of Ioannis Velaras to the documents belonging to this classical tradition, analysing his version of Batrachomyomachia, a «classic» piece, given its neo-Greek literary fortune.
