Natural Magic in the Liber de arte medendi (1564) by Cristóbal de Vega (1510-1573)
Abstract
The present work deals with a study which considers if there is any natural magic in the Liber de arte medendi (1564) by Alcala’s Professor Cristóbal de Vega. It has been seen that his orthodox galenism makes him completely indifferent to any question related with alchemy. On the other hand, he uses to be more timid and quiet than prudent in matters concerning astrology. However, it is rather surprising his absolute rejection of the evil eye without any exception. This is quite remarkable since it distinguishes him from the rest of contemporaneous doctors who accept evil eye.
