Sentido histórico-cultural de Oriente: una perspectiva desde los héroes griegos
Resumen
Los griegos percibieron el semi desconocido mundo oriental de maneras disímiles. En un sentido, con admirada fascinación, extrañeza y exotismo, por las riquezas de las cortes orientales, el ordenamiento político de sus pueblos y el prestigio de su cultura; en el otro, con rechazo y menosprecio, sobre todo tras el conflicto con los persas, que estableció el estereotipo del bárbaro. Las páginas de Heródoto, pero también de Píndaro, Diodoro Sículo, Tucídides o Pausanias, sirven de referencia en la valoración del imaginario griego sobre Oriente. Una forma de explicar, comprender y asimilar la presencia de pueblos orientales (persas, egipcios, fenicios, babilonios, asirios), con sus elementos culturales particulares, alejados del ámbito griego, consistió en el empleo del esquema genealógico y del accionar de algunos héroes míticos tradicionales.
