Textual notes to Photius’ Bibliotheca (Δάρας, Δονάτος, Σουρήνα, συνέχεε, αὐτοῦ)

Abstract

Photius’ Bibliotheca is a compulsory reference work for the scholars of Greek Antiquity in general, and of its language. The attention received is greater than other writings of that time because it preserves texts and linguistic information of various kinds. However, multiple factors in the editorial task, whether due to bias, error, or omission, led to fix readings without consideration of the main manuscripts or linguistics parameters of the period. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate that the establishment of five readings in some chapters of the Bibliotheca is unfounded and their amendment is required. With this, the scope is to warn about these changes foreign to the work, and to initiate new discussions about the way in which this type of writings is treated.
