Issue 24 Latente Journal (2026)

MONOGRAPHIC: Illusory Spaces: Presence, Absence, and the Construction of Place in Cinema

This edition of the journal, coordinated by Ruth Barranco Raimundo, will focus on architecture and the city in cinema, approached through an interdisciplinary lens that emphasizes the significance of settings and art direction from conceptual, historical, social, pedagogical, and gender-related perspectives. The issue seeks to explore diverse interpretations of architecture in film: from its exterior dimension, in relation to the city and urban planning; from its interiors—through set design and spatial composition—as connected to notions of intimacy and domesticity; and even through the absence of architecture within the cinematic representation of the urban environment.

Some of the possible thematic lines for this special monograph are:

• Architectural settings in cinema

• The role of interior design as a narrative element in cinema

• Art direction in film

• The city and urban planning as cinematic representations

• The doctrine and pedagogy of cinematic urbanrepresentations
