Rambal during his stay at The Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Abstract
It was common that theatre companies from the Peninsula, on its itinerary towards America, had the Canary Islands as its port of call, acting both in the Guimerá Theatre of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, as well as in the Perez Galdós in Las Palmas. Seasons lasted about 15 days, always depending on the repertoire of plays included in the programs. One of those companies was Enrique Rambal’s, better known as “Rambal Company” which, before starting his trip to Buenos Aires (Argentina), remained almost a month in the Archipelago acting in both theatres. It made its début in the capital of Tenerife from late February until March 17th, 1929, with a large cast (around 170 people including actors, tailors, technicians, prompters, etc.) and spectacular and complicated sets, apart from cinematic tricks and procedures that fascinated the public.
