Abstract

Focusing on the artist killer motif, this article explores the relation between crime and art through historical, literary, and cinematographic manifestations, such as Suetonius, Thomas de Quincey, Oscar Wilde, and Thomas Harris’ works. The reflections are based on the Jung’s theory of the «collective unconscious» and their Archetypes as the «heroe» and the «dragon», besides other mythological sources, like Theseus and Minotaur legend, within a concept of rebirth of ancient topics in the contemporary world, according to Umberto Eco and other thinkers’ thesis about a modern «Middle Age». Ultimately, «The pianist is the murderer», the article latest item, analyses the characters of the Captain Nemo, the Phantom of the Opera, and Hannibal Lecter, in order to discover their common symbols and internal motivations (the hate for mankind, the love to the culture, and the devotion to a Lady).
