Abstract

This article studies the presence of the bridge in The Man Who Would Be King (1975), a John Huston’s representative film shot, as is usually the case, from an adapted screenplay (signed by himself). The meticulous analysis carried out reveals a considerable presence of the bridge (beyond the famous final scene) that activates many of its symbolic associations, especially those linked to the ideological background of the Kiplingian hypotext, and contributes to interconnect the entire network of signifiers that assemble the film text.
