Authorship and Contribuciones
Authorship
Being considered an author requires that an individual has made a significant contribution to the development of a manuscript in any of the following ways:
- Conception and design, or in the acquisition of data, or in the analysis and interpretation of the data that led to the article.
- Writing or critical-scientific revision and discussion of the text.
- Approval of the contents of the version that will ultimately be published.
Coauthorship
In cases where more than one author has contributed activities that justify such a designation, it is recommended to establish clear roles and the order in which their names will appear in the final version of the article. This information must be provided during the submission process.
To determine the order in which authors appear in the manuscript, authors may use any of the common practices. These are:
- a) Order by Contribution
The first author is the one who carried out the majority of the work and wrote the manuscript.
The last author is usually the principal investigator or project supervisor.
The intermediate authors are listed according to their level of contribution. - b) Order by Academic Hierarchy
- c) Negotiated Order
This should be established as previously agreed upon. - d) Equal Authorship
In cases where contributions were equal, this should be indicated with a note such as “Main Co-authors.”
In all of the above cases, the ORCID of the authors must be included, as stated in the Author Guidelines.
It should be noted that only one individual can be responsible for submitting the manuscript to the journal. Therefore, this person must ensure that, during the manuscript submission process, all other participants designated as co-authors are added both in the document itself and in the metadata.
Possible Activities or Reference Roles
See CRediT here.
Minor Participation Acknowledgment
When an individual does not meet the criteria for authorship, they should be acknowledged in the acknowledgments section.
Responsibility for Content
Authors are solely responsible for the content and ethical suitability of their articles. They must declare their authorship and ensure that the intellectual property rights of third parties are respected. In this regard, if applicable, they must obtain the necessary permissions to use external material, such as images, graphics, or tables, among others.
Finally, by submitting a manuscript, the authors certify its originality and confirm that it has not been submitted or published in another journal.
