Z-Palimpsests and other monstrous re-appropriations. New adaptative mechanisms to revive the classics
Abstract
The article, as a result of the current phenomenon of remakes, analyses several adaptations of classical Spanish –the Quixote and the Lazarillo– and English –Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice– literature, in which zombies, vampires and other monstrous creatures are included as characters with a specific role in the narrative. The purpose of this study would be to conclude whether or not the inclusion of such archetypes enriches the original text. Through this, the article intends to propose a reflection on the semiological value of the superstratum of monstrosity as a mechanism to revive the classics nowadays
