No 23 (2025): Antiquity as a source of inspiration. Ancient history through cinema, comics, photography and visual culture.

The journal Latente presents its annual thematic issue, coordinated by Óscar Lapeña Marchena (University of Cádiz), which examines the multifaceted representations of antiquity within cinema, sequential art, photography, and other forms of visual culture. Published to coincide with the centenary of the release of the film Ben-Hur (1925), this volume critically analyzes how the ancient world has been conceptualized and depicted over time—spanning from classical receptions to contemporary productions—while interrogating its enduring significance in the shaping of cultural narratives.
