Entrance exam for those over 45 years of age

What is PAM-45?

In accordance with Royal Decree 534/2024, of June 11, which regulates the requirements for access to official university undergraduate courses, the basic characteristics of the entrance exam and the basic regulations for admission procedures, people over 45 years of age, who do not have an academic qualification that allows them to access the university through other access routes, may access by taking an access course, called CAM-45, and subsequently passing a specific test (PAM-45).

Requirements

Those over 45 years of age, or those who turn or have turned 45 in the calendar year in which the test is held and do not have an academic qualification that allows them to enter the university through other access routes, may apply.

This section includes those with high school diplomas. previous as regulated by Organic Law 1/1990 of October 3 on the General Organization of the Education System, provided that they have not passed university entrance exams or meet the requirements for it.

Those who have passed the PAM-25 or PAM-45 in the Single District of the Canary Islands and wish to improve their grade or change their option may enroll during the periods established in each call.

Individuals who have passed the PAM-25 or PAM-45 in another university district may enroll as applicants for the first time.

Structure

The PAM45 is structured in two consecutive and eliminatory phases.

1st Phase. General Phase:

The purpose of the exam is to assess the candidates' maturity and suitability for successful university studies, as well as their reasoning and written expression. It will include two written exercises, corresponding to the subjects studied in the CAM-45:

  • Commentary on a text or development of a current general topic.
  • Castilian language.

Phase 2. Interview:

The interview is of an eliminatory nature and is essential to obtain the right to access university studies.

It will be based on a technical questionnaire developed by professionals, whose objective will be to detect the attitudes, qualities, and preferences of applicants in order to determine the university studies that best fit their profile and increase their chances of success.

The interview will be conducted in two phases:

  • Joint Phase 1: All applicants will be given a technical questionnaire, which must be completed in writing within a maximum of 60 minutes. Failure to attend in person will result in the loss of their right to participate. It will contain the following sections:
    • A series of items that will ask about your CV. A series of items that will ask about motivation, in order to detect attitudes and qualities for accessing university studies. A series of items that will ask about the degree or degrees you are applying for, with the answers explained.
  • 2nd Individual Phase: This phase consists of identifying the candidates' attitudes, qualities, and preferences. To this end, the evaluation committee will prepare an oral interview script based on the technical questionnaire from the joint phase.
  • Failure to appear at either of the two interview phases will result in the applicant being classified as "Unsuitable."

Qualification

Each exercise in the general phase of the test will be graded with a score from 0 to 10, expressed with two decimal places, rounded to the nearest hundredth, and, in the case of equidistance, to the next higher. The final grade for this phase will be the arithmetic average of the two exercises in the test.

Applicants will be deemed to have passed the general phase when they obtain a minimum of 5 points in their final grade. Under no circumstances will averaging be allowed if a minimum score of 4 points is not obtained in each exercise. Failure to pass the test will prevent access to the interview.

The personal interview will be graded as “Pass” or “Fail.”

Failure to appear or pass the interview means that in subsequent calls it will be mandatory to take and pass the first phase of the test again.

Claims

In case of disagreement with the grades obtained, students may formalize claim, addressed to the President of the Evaluation Court, requesting a second correction of those exercises in which they consider the correction and grading criteria established by the court to have been applied incorrectly, within the period of three business days from the date of publication of the grades.

Claims must be submitted online within the period indicated in the corresponding notice.

The exercises will be reviewed by a different specialist teacher from the one who performed the initial correction. In all cases, the grade will be the arithmetic mean of the scores from both corrections. It will be final and published as established in the corresponding course schedule.

The final grade will be published on the University's website.

An appeal against the final grade obtained may be filed with the Rector of the University, and submitted to the General Registry of the ULL within one month of its publication.

Exam view

Those who have filed a complaint for a second marking of exercises may request to see the challenged exams. The request must be submitted online, within the period indicated in the corresponding call, with explicit indication of the subject or subjects challenged. Applicants will be notified with a date and time (within the following ten days). The notification will be made on the ULL website. The exams will be shown by the secretary or the chair of the examination board, not by the marking professors, as this is not a third marking (not provided for in current regulations).

Rating improvement

The following may retake the entrance exam:

  • Those who passed the PAM-45 in the Single District of the Canary Islands and wish to improve their grade. The new grade will only be taken into account if the previous grade is improved.

Students who wish to repeat the PAM-45 to raise their grade must enroll during the regular enrollment period and in the manner provided in the annual call, and may choose between full enrollment, which entitles them to take the preparation course and take the test, or enrollment, which only entitles them to take the test.

Applicants will be exempt from the interview.

The grade obtained in the new call will be taken into consideration, provided it is higher than the previous one.

Students with functional diversity or specific support needs

If any enrolled student has a disability or specific educational support needs that require special accommodations at the time of the exam or during the preparatory course, they must state this when submitting their enrollment application, specifying in detail the exact accommodation measures they require.

This application must be accompanied by supporting documentation stating the type and degree of functional loss presented by the candidate, issued by the social services of the corresponding autonomous community.
