Legalization of
documents

If you're planning to study or enter the job market outside of Spain, we advise you to legalize and apostille the official documents you'll be using abroad (degrees, certificates, etc.).

The legalization of original official university academic documents that are to be valid abroad is an internationally agreed process that requires prior recognition of signatures by the corresponding Spanish authorities.

This is the preliminary procedure for the legalization process by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, and, where applicable, the Ministry of Justice, for the following types of academic documents:

  • Official university degrees valid throughout the country, issued by university rectors.
  • Higher education and postgraduate degrees issued by the Ministry of Education.
  • Official academic certifications of studies leading to the degrees mentioned in the previous sections.
  • Certifications issued by the Ministry of Education certifying compliance with the qualification requirements required by Directives of the Council of the European Communities

Modalities

  • Official qualifications (official university degrees and certificates): will be subject to signature recognition through the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
  • Unofficial (titles, certificates or diplomas of own degrees and certifications of university entrance exams): they will be legalized by notary public
