Entrance exam for those over 40 years of age

What is PAM-40?

In accordance with Royal Decree 534/2024, of June 11, which regulates the requirements for access to official university undergraduate courses, the basic characteristics of the entrance exam and the basic regulations for admission procedures, individuals with work or professional experience related to a course, who do not hold any academic qualifications enabling them to access the university by other means and who are or have reached the age of 40 in the calendar year in which the academic year begins, may access the university by this route.

Access will be granted to specific courses offered by a university. To this end, the interested party will submit an application to the university of their choice.

Requirements

Persons who meet the following conditions may apply for this access procedure:

Provide proof of work or professional experience that qualifies for the degree you are applying for. You must provide proof of at least fifteen years of continuous or intermittent work experience.

Be or have reached the age of 40 in the calendar year in which the academic year begins.

Not hold any academic qualifications that qualify for university admission through other channels. For these purposes, passing the PAM-25 at any Spanish university, or the PAM-45 at any public university in the Canary Islands, is considered to qualify the candidate for university admission through other channels.

Structure and rating system

Access will be structured in two consecutive and eliminatory phases:

  • First phase: assessment and accreditation of merits.
  • Second phase: interview.

The first phase consists of three quantitatively evaluable criteria:

a) Criterion 1. Work experience. This experience is assessed based on its relationship to the candidate's chosen degree. The job will be linked to the corresponding professional category, which in turn will be linked to the official degree. Volunteer work carried out in the previous five years may be taken into account, meaning any activity defined as such by national regulations.

b) Criterion 2. Training received. This assessment is based on its relationship to the chosen university degree. A qualification in Vocational Training or equivalent in Intermediate Vocational Training directly related to the official undergraduate degree sought will be considered. Training courses offered by public centers or organizations, or by private centers or institutions in partnership with public administrations, may also be considered. The content of these courses must be directly related to the official undergraduate degree sought.

c) Other merits criterion. These include merits that have provided the candidate with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully complete the chosen degree. If the candidate has two Intermediate Vocational Training certificates related to the degree, one of them will be included in this section.

The score awarded for each criterion will be established in the corresponding annual call.

The first phase will have a score between 0 and 10 points. Applicants who obtain a score equal to or greater than 5 points will be eligible to move on to the second phase (interview).

The second phase (interview) will be graded as "Pass" or "Fail," with applicants who achieve a "Pass" grade passing this phase. If the grade is "Fail," the interview may be repeated in subsequent sessions.

Claims

Once the provisional grades have been published, candidates may request to review their file before appealing them. They may do so by submitting a general request to the Entrance Examinations Office, in the manner established in the annual call for applications.

Once the file review process has been completed, candidates may file a claim against the publication of their provisional grade by means of a general request addressed to the Vice-Rector for Students in the manner established in the annual call..

Candidates may appeal against their final grades to the Rector of the University of La Laguna within one month of their publication.

Effects and validity of the right of access

For the purposes of admission to degrees offered by the University of La Laguna, students may only access those degrees expressly listed in the credential(s) obtained, and are subject to the general pre-registration procedure.

The credential or credentials obtained by the applicants will be of indefinite duration.

The credential cannot be improved in subsequent calls for applications, without prejudice to the possibility of requesting accreditation for other undergraduate qualifications. Once the provisional grades have been published, candidates may request a review of their file before appealing for provisional grades by submitting a general request to the Entrance Examinations Office, in the manner established in the annual call for applications.
