Grades 25-26 Nieves Santana

Nieves Santana

Nieves doesn't see journalism as just a profession, but as a tool to open the world's eyes. Committed to truth, justice, and the environment, she chose to study at the University of La Laguna to train in what she loves most: telling stories that matter.

Since then, he has combined his communicative vocation with a deep concern for the natural environment, especially in unique and fragile territories such as Macaronesia.

The look beyond the obvious

From a very young age, Nieves knew that simply skimming the surface wasn't enough. She always wanted to go deeper, ask uncomfortable questions, and uncover hidden realities. And she found in journalism a way to channel that need to understand and explain the world.

Communication with purpose

In the classrooms of the University of La Laguna, she began to develop not only as a communicator but also as a researcher. She learned to see things differently, to contrast, to contextualize. And, above all, to speak out for causes that don't always have a voice.

Count to protect

One of her main focuses has been the environment. Nieves has researched endangered habitats in the Macaronesia archipelago, where climate change is leaving profound scars. But her message is not one of resignation, but of hope: she firmly believes that, with information and action, we can still protect what we have.

Through committed journalism, Nieves builds bridges between knowledge and action. Because the future begins with stories.
