First International Seminar on the Golden Age. Lope before Lope: towards the formation of the new comedy

October 7 - October 9

The Performing Arts Classroom of the Vice-Rectorate for Culture and Extension, the Vice-Dean's Office of the Philology Section of the Faculty of Humanities, the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Transfer and the Department of Spanish Philology of the University of La Laguna are organizing this scientific meeting that will analyze the strategies to represent, question and reconceptualize the gestation of the dramatic model that Lope de Vega subjected to experimentation and consolidated on the substrate of the comedians dell'arte, the Valencian tragedies and the Renaissance dramaturgies, confirming on the hybrid palimpsest the most influential cultural industry of leisure and the economy of Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries.

This scientific meeting addresses, for the first time in the history of the almost three-hundred-year-old University of La Laguna, the literary studies of the Golden Age and aims to become an Atlantic reference point for international Hispanic studies.

The meeting will take place in person at the Guajara Campus of the University of La Laguna on October 7, 8 and 9, 2026. In this way, it is intended to promote the exchange and generation of knowledge from a peripheral space, with a research reality as unique as that of the Canary archipelago, in order to situate the debates on the Golden Age outside of the usual cultural and research centers.
