Connect Science@ULL Laboratory. Scientific workshop "Climate change, risks and sustainability"«

November 19 - 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

The Tenerife Island Council Bookstore hosts a new activity of the Conecta Cienci@ULL Laboratory on Thursday, November 19, a scientific outreach program promoted by the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Transfer of the University of La Laguna, the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (Cienci@ULL) and the Tenerife Island Council.

This initiative was created to promote scientific culture among the island's residents through a program of outreach activities led by faculty and researchers from the University of La Laguna. Through open, accessible, and participatory events, the program aims to bring the knowledge and research conducted at the ULL closer to the public, fostering dialogue between the scientific community and the general public.

The next session will be dedicated to climate change and its effects on the archipelago, with the scientific workshop entitled "Climate Change, Risks and Sustainability", which will be taught by Abel López Díez and Nerea Martín Raya, researchers and members of the Chair of Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilient Cities.

The workshop will address the main manifestations of climate change in the Canary Islands, with particular attention to phenomena such as heat waves, water scarcity, floods, forest fires, and risks in coastal areas. Using local examples, participants will analyze how these phenomena affect the territory, the population, and ecosystems, as well as the factors that influence the islands' vulnerability.

The event will also explore strategies for adapting to climate change, reducing disaster risk, and the importance of territorial planning for moving towards a more sustainable development model and better-prepared islands to face climate challenges. The activity will be conducted in an informative and participatory format, aimed at the general public and designed to facilitate knowledge sharing and answer questions.

Speakers: Abel López Díez and Nerea Martín Raya, researchers from the Department of Geography and History at the University of La Laguna.

Organizers: Vice-Rectorate for Research and Transfer, Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit of the University of La Laguna (Cienci@ULL) and Cabildo of Tenerife.
