First Scientific Conference of the International Network for Social Work Training. “Advances in Research on Human Rights and Social Work”

October 29 - October 30

The Scientific Conference is conceived as an “Open Laboratory” focused on advances in international research on Human Rights and Social Work. It aims to expand upon and bring closer the topics covered in the Research Seminar “Human Rights as a Compass for Social Work: A Dialogue between Latin America and Spain,” which will take place on October 28th as part of Campus América.

Thus, this conference will deliberately shift towards a more intimate, dialogical, and exploratory format. In contrast to the more expository approach of the previous meeting, this activity opens a space for academic interaction in which international researchers share not only established results, but also ongoing processes, open questions, and emerging debates. In this way, the conference becomes a laboratory, understood as a living forum, where knowledge is shown to be under construction and research is presented as a dynamic, situated, and collective practice.

In this context, the event also allows for a comparative analysis of the international landscape of training and research in Human Rights and Social Work, relating three distinct traditions: Latin America, understood as a benchmark in the consolidation of training models committed to Human Rights; Europe, experiencing tensions and processes of weakening in this area; and the United States, as an emerging scene of new academic and professional configurations. This intersection of perspectives not only enriches the analysis but also situates the Seminar within a space for global dialogue among diverse frameworks, experiences, and horizons.

This activity is especially geared towards students, who will find here a unique opportunity to interact horizontally with international experts, understand how a research agenda is developed, and approach the research dimension of Social Work from an applied and critical perspective. At the same time, it is a valuable resource for faculty seeking to strengthen academic networks, promote comparative projects, or explore new lines of inquiry, as well as for practicing Social Work professionals who wish to learn about contemporary developments in the field of Human Rights and their connection to professional practice.
