The International Day of Rural Women in the Canary Islands 2026, entitled "Sowing the Future: Science and Territory in the Canary Islands", constitutes the central space and comprehensive awareness promoted by the Chair of Agritourism and Wine Tourism of the Canary Islands of the Canary Institute of Agri-food Quality and the University of La Laguna in coordination with the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Rural Environment, with the active application of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Canary Federation of Municipalities (FECAM), a collaboration that guarantees a real and direct impact in the Canary municipalities, especially in those of smaller population scale that are the heart of our rural entity.

This event takes on exceptional historical significance as it is being held within the framework of the International Year of the Woman Farmer, a global recognition promoted by the United Nations (UN) and the FAO. In this context, the conference serves as a driving force for raising the profile of rural women, reaffirming their role not only as agricultural workers, but also as active agents of knowledge, innovation, and territorial governance, capable of integrating science with sustainable environmental management and food sovereignty.
