You live. And the people around you accompany you. Or so you think. They are close to you, or perhaps a little further away. Or so you perceive. It seems as if they are by your side.

And while you live, the world changes. Florence, for example, also changes. Everything flows, Heraclitus said. Later others would say it. Perhaps it has always been said, from the first glance that saw water flowing or saw the sky changing.

Giovacchino Forzano reflected on these things when he wrote his libretto for the dramatization of Giacomo Puccini's opera entitled Gianni Schicchi. Our staging, The art of inheriting, It's not an opera, but it is a theatrical homage to that libretto. We've adopted a different mode of expression, but the purpose is the same: to question ourselves, to recognize ourselves, and perhaps, to feel ashamed.

In Florence, as on your street, in that time, as in your time, the human condition comes into play. Among those around you you will see love, you will see pain, you will see laughter, you will see self-interest; you will see that there are people who are born, live, and die with their shadow and without their shadow.

But no matter how much everything changes, there's one behavior that remains constant. When the end comes, your last breath, and you're gone, there are those who approach. They want to know your final wishes.
