The seminar aims to explore the experiences of educators at the crossroads of educational systems in Latin America and Europe, and within the context of the relationship between Latin America and the European Union. With a fresh perspective, it will analyze key figures in education on both sides of the Atlantic and their points of convergence. The encounter between the two groups resulted in mutual enrichment and an exchange of experiences and educational methods.

This paper will explore some “old” and “renewed” relationships at the crossroads between teachers, schools, and children. It begins with an analysis of the Chilean Nobel laureate Gabriela Mistral, a poet, diplomat, teacher, and educator who, in addition to her teaching practice immersed in the world of education, published numerous articles that circulated throughout the Americas and Europe, reflecting her pedagogical philosophy. Gabriela Mistral worked as a teacher in various schools and became an important thinker regarding the role of public education. The New School movement, the foundation of her pedagogical actions, left a distinctive mark and inspired the educational practices of various teachers, such as Maria Montessori, the Agazzi sisters, Carmen de Burgos, María de Maeztu, Regina Lago, María Zambrano, and others. The influence of these exiled educators in the Americas extended their educational ideals to new societies. It also raises the need to rethink the past in dialogue with the present and to reflect on new pedagogies for today's society.
