31st SEDERI International Conference. Hells & Heavens of Early Modern England

6 mayo, 2020, 8:00 am - 8 mayo, 2020, 5:00 pm UTC+0

The Island of Tenerife was a major supply port in the age of discoveries, and profited enormously from the lucrative production of sugar and Canary wine—the exquisite drink of conviviality and creativity. Yet, the Peak of Tenerife, considered one of the highest mountains on Earth that soon attracted the interest of the Royal Society, did arouse strange responses in Renaissance poetic imagination which variously depicted it as an icon of evil: it was an epitome of the world’s imperfection for Donne, a symbol of human ambition and pride for Marvell, and, for Milton, a fitting simile for Satan.

San Cristóbal de La Laguna was founded in the late 15th century in accordance with Renaissance philosophical principles and ideals. In 2002, La Laguna was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site (city). For further information, please, follow this link.
