International Congress "Moving Spain Forward": Musical Conference 'My Heart Dances in the Immense Music'«

April 15 - 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Musical conference‘My heart dances in the immense music'’ Based on the repertoire and career of Josefina de la Torre, performed by soprano Raquel Lojendio, pianist Irene Alfageme, and poet Katya Vázquez Schröder. Dramaturgy and research by Ale Coello Hernández. Presented by Carlos Alayón Galindo.

Based on research into the repertoire, recitals, and concerts of Josefina de la Torre, this musical lecture aims to highlight one of the lesser-known facets of the Canarian poet. It will explore the solos that recurred throughout her career, from her 19th-century affinity for French melodies with Jules Massenet, operatic arias by Puccini, and zarzuelas by Barbieri and Chapí, to the emergence of new Spanish music at the beginning of the 20th century, with great masters such as Enrique Granados, Manuel de Falla, Joaquín Turina, and Gustavo Durán. Furthermore, in homage to the Lyceum Club, the poems "Ayes" by María Rodrigo and María de la O Lejárraga will be performed, culminating with one of Josefina de la Torre's poems set to music by Agustín Conchs during the Spanish Civil War.

This event is part of the project 'Book Days: A Year to Inhabit the Word,' an initiative that invites the university community and society at large to celebrate reading as a space for encounter, thought, and collective action. Throughout 2026, to mark the centenary of the official establishment of Book Day on April 23, the project will promote academic and cultural activities that strengthen dialogue, critical thinking, and the connection to written culture. Because reading is not just an individual act, but an experience that unites and transforms us. Because we aspire for every day to be Book Day.
