Educational artistic experience 'The dwellings or the inner stage'‘

June 11 - 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Three women from the world of flamenco and contemporary art journey, in the 21st century, along the path traced by Saint Teresa of Ávila more than four centuries ago in her most profound work, "The Mansions or the Interior Castle." Teresa's texts are interwoven with those of the show's creator, Diana Pérez Custodio, throughout the seven mansions that comprise the journey.

The performance features Ana Díaz Olaya, professor in the Department of Didactics of Musical Expression at the University of Málaga (UMA); Yolanda Matarán Robles, actress, teacher, and Master of Arts in Modern and Comparative Literature; and María Jesús Romero Postigo, violin teacher. It is directed by Concepción Villarrubia, teacher, actress, cultural manager, and theater facilitator for various groups.

This event will be held at the General and Humanities Library of the University of La Laguna and is part of the project 'Book Days: A Year to Inhabit the Word,' an initiative that invites the university community and society at large to celebrate reading as a space for encounter, thought, and collective action. Throughout 2026, to mark the centenary of the official establishment of Book Day on April 23, the project will promote academic and cultural activities that strengthen dialogue, critical thinking, and the connection with written culture. Because reading is not just an individual act, but an experience that unites and transforms us. Because we aspire for every day to be Book Day.

Reading is not just about turning printed lines and immersing oneself in fictional worlds. It is also about reflecting on the environment we inhabit, interpreting images, listening to music, experiencing dramatic works, or immersing oneself in cinematic narratives, as well as deciphering gestures, inhabiting spaces, and understanding silences. Above all, reading is about situating oneself in the world with a broad awareness and a critical spirit.
